Preventative maintenance and servicing is the right thing to do, e.g: don't drive your vehicle until you can hear a brake noise because at this stage the components will be damaged and in need of replacement when it comes in for a service.The same applies to engine oil replacement...it is a lot cheaper to change the oil and oil filter than to replace the engine.
